PubMed climbed from 64th to 4th among the sites ChatGPT cites most in US answers. WebMD fell from 18th to 79th. In six months, the model learned to skip the summary and read the original.
The same pattern kept showing up in very different places. Asana made a browser agent 76 times cheaper, and most of that saving came from fixing its own architecture, not from buying a better model. Character.AI, once valued at about $1 billion, agreed to sell assets to Disney for $20 million, long after its founders, its technology and finally its CEO had gone elsewhere.
Rand Fishkin argued that "made by humans" is turning into a premium, because cheap output starts to look the same. YouTube put its assistant inside the Shorts player, so even a 30-second clip now has to answer follow-up questions. Sophos let agents close half its security cases, and wrote down exactly who is allowed to press send.
Copies got cheap. Originals did not: original facts, original architecture, original judgment. Seven pieces below on going back to the source.
Bid on your competitors' cancellation searches
Most PPC accounts automatically exclude any query containing "cancel", which also blocks people who are actively leaving a competitor and have not picked a replacement yet. In one account described by Search Engine Journal, a "cancel [competitor] contract" keyword ran at a 15 percent CTR and roughly 18 percent lower CPA than the generic campaigns. This week, filter your search terms report for competitor names plus "cancel", "switch from" and "problems with", then read your competitors' one and two-star reviews on G2, Trustpilot or Capterra to find the top complaint. Build one small test campaign around that complaint, with a landing page that names the pain and makes switching easy, and compare it against your generic product page.
