The Weekly Vibe #3: The Stack Is Changing

Stanford released its AI Index this week. Two groups of people read it and drew opposite conclusions.

The AI practitioners saw charts confirming momentum: adoption is accelerating, capabilities are compounding, economic value is being created across industries. The general public looked at the same data and reported rising anxiety about jobs, healthcare access, and economic stability. These are not two interpretations of ambiguous evidence. They are two experiences of the same reality.

That split runs through everything this week. While AI insiders were busy announcing Cloudflare's enterprise agent infrastructure, Anthropic's restricted model release, and OpenAI's acquisition of a personal finance startup, the world outside the ecosystem was processing what these moves mean for their livelihoods, their financial futures, and their understanding of who controls what.

The answer to that question matters for every business in this newsletter's audience. Not because the anxiety is right and the optimism is wrong, or the reverse. But because you operate in both worlds simultaneously. Your board wants the efficiency gains. Your customers are part of the anxious public. Your marketing team is spending more on AI than your engineering team. And your advertising infrastructure just got quietly replaced by an auction you can no longer see inside. Four words cover most of it: the stack is changing.

One Thing to Try

Claude Cowork

Anthropic's Claude Cowork is a desktop tool that sits between simple chat and full automation. You build recurring task automations, called skills, connected to your Gmail, Slack, and Google Calendar, without writing code. A tutorial this week from JJ Englert at Tenex walks through setting up a personalized writing style, automated email drafting, and a morning debrief that summarizes your calendar and inbox on a schedule. Set aside 45 minutes this week to try one skill. Start with the morning debrief: it costs nothing and immediately tells you whether this kind of ambient AI fits your workflow.

Happy Growth,

Dan
