The Weekly Vibe #9: The Inimitability Question

A pattern showed up across seven separate stories this week that most people are reading as unrelated. ClickUp cut 22 percent of its team and called it an AI transformation. Reddit's CEO called user data "modern oil" and sued two AI companies. Cox Media paid an FTC fine for selling a phone-listening capability that never existed. Sundar Pichai admitted Google is "a bit behind" on agentic coding. Demis Hassabis said we are in the "foothills of the singularity" while Google quietly moved Nobel-laureate talent away from AlphaFold. Google's AI Mode is rolling out across languages on a timeline that compressed twelve months into one quarter.

Read together, the stories are the same story. AI is repricing what counts as a moat. Content moats are gone. Geographic moats are closing. Specialized AI moats are being abandoned by the companies that built them. Marketing moats built on capability claims are now regulatory exposure. The data layer is being repriced from free to licensed. The default-winner narrative is broken in the workload that matters most.

Seven articles in this edition. The connecting thread is the inimitability question. If your strategic moat can be copied, AI is already copying it. If it cannot be copied, you might still have a business.

One Thing to Try

Run a Multilingual AI Mode Visibility Check

Pick your top branded query, the one that should return your business as the answer. Run it in Google AI Mode in five languages your customers actually use. Read what comes back. The eighteen-month catch-up window non-US markets used to have on Google features just closed. The diagnostic costs twenty minutes. The strategic clarity it produces is asymmetric.

Happy Growth,

Dan
